Anthony Kiedis Plaidness

I think I'm going to hit the hay early tonight, but I kind of have Anthony Kiedis on the brain right now. Okay, so I have him on my brain all the time, but that's not the point. AK is often seen wearing plaid, especially red tartan plaid. Did you know that the red and black checked shirt he has on in the first picture is actually called Buffalo Plaid? Here are a few more pictures of the little cutie ...

A Plaid Wedding!

My friend Janet posted the above picture on my Facebook wall today. I have seen this picture before, but I hadn't saved it. I totally love the look. I have some other plaid wedding pictures saved, so I thought I'd post them. Of course, I'm already married, so these dresses don't apply to me. However, if I had to do it all again ... !!!

Edited to add this cake below because ... well, it's just too cool not to!

Plaid Pendleton Robe

I saw this robe at the Salvation Army the other day, and I immediately grabbed it and put it into my basket. I didn't look it over too well, which is odd for me. I just knew it was the red tartan plaid that I love so much. I took it home and was about to toss it into the washing machine when I finally (duh!) realized it was 100% wool. That got my attention and I looked at the inside label. It's from Pendleton Woolen Mills, which is a company based out of Portland, Oregon.

Of course, the next thing I do is start researching online to see if this robe is vintage, valuable, or whatever. So far, I haven't found the same exact robe anywhere, but similar ones are vintage and from the 1960s. I've checked eBay and they seem to be running around $60 for similar robes. New robes from Pendleton can be as much as $228. I'm still going to hunt around to see if I can find more information on it. In the meantime, Rick said he'd drop it off at the dry cleaners for me. Like a dork, I didn't even look close enough to see that it was dry clean only. Not that it would have mattered because I'm sure I would have bought it anyway.

It's actually really cute and has a very unique cut to it. It's definitely a woman's robe, and it almost looks like it has shoulder pads by the way it's put together. It's very fitting when the tie is pulled tight. It has two lined pockets as well. What I really love about it is the length — it's long! I'm 5'8" and most so-called long robes come up to about my shins. This one goes all the way to my ankles. Without the tie, it could almost be worn as an overcoat. Regardless, it was a definite cool find for me.

Oh, and by the way — it only cost me $5.

Plaid Eyes & Nails

Plaid eye shadow and plaid nail polish strips! What will they think of next? Sadly, I haven't been able to find the Sally Hansen strips in plaid yet. I find all the others, but no plaid. Maybe someday. I don't think the plaid eye shadow is my thing, but it looks kind of cool on this model. Now if I could only find a plaid lipstick ...

Seen at Target

These aren't exactly my style, but they are plaid. I saw them at Target a few nights ago. I can't remember how much they were, but I'm thinking around $30 or so. I'd personally like them a lot more if the bottoms were black and they were taller boots, about knee-high.

Plaid for the Pup!

My friend Dan posted this picture on Facebook awhile back. I totally love this table! I know Denny would love it as well. Right now he's sitting under the table next to the couch, but I'm sure he'd much rather be snoozing in his very own little plaid condo!

Out-of-date ... or not?

A lot of times with plaid, the older the item, the uglier it can be. At least some people think so. Not me. I love seeing old photographs of people wearing plaid. Some are so out-of-date, like this 1960s maxi dress. Most people would look at something like this and think, "Yuck! I'd never wear that."

When I saw this particular dress, I started thinking, "Black, granny boots with a slight heel, a pair of black gauntlets, and maybe a knitted beret — black, of course." You could totally take this vintage dress and make it cool today. At least I think so.

What do you think?

Flea's Amazing Pants

I think it's cool that he wears them as often as he does. Flea, as you probably know, is the bass player for the band — The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Plaid UGGs

I saw these red plaid UGGs online recently. I thought they were kind of cool, although I've never seen them in stores. People either hate UGGs or love them with a passion. I'm in that latter group. I have troublesome feet. I've had surgeries on both feet, and when your feet hurt, you'll love any type of shoe you can actually wear.

I wear UGGs a lot, pretty much year round. I wear them around the house as slippers, and I have a pair of extra-ratty ones I take camping. UGGs are the best shoes for camping, especially sitting around the campfire or having to get up in the wee hours. They're easy to slip on and off. My boys literally live in them. Sad thing is, both my boys' feet are the same size as mine, so they've been stealing my boots!

UGGs have an interesting history. I have always thought they were designed by an Australian surfer in 1971. If you read this link — Ugg boots — you will see they have been around a very long time.

Not the mama!

Did you ever watch Dinosaurs? It ran from 1991 through 1994. I wasn't into television all that much at that time, but I remember watching this show quite a bit. I loved the baby dinosaur who always yelled out, "Not the mama!" and "Gotta love me!" I've seen the DVD set in stores and thought it would be fun to get it, but I never did. That's a good thing because we recently got rid of our Dish network, and all TV in general. The only thing we're getting now is Netflix, and fortunately, every episode of Dinosaurs is on there.

Rick and I watched the first show the other night. Of course, Earl's red plaid shirt stood out like a sore thumb, so I knew I'd have to feature it here.

A plaid book?

It's not exactly a book I'd buy for myself, but the plaid definitely caught my eye. I saw this book as I was wandering around the Salvation Army recently. It's kind of interesting to see where various forms of plaid will show up — even on a book spine.

Like ... Oh My God!

We have over a foot and a half of snow at our house, with more coming between now and tomorrow. So, bundled from head-to-toe, I clunked my way into Target with my big snow stomper boots. What do I see? Bathing suits — and it's only January! But what really took me by surprise was this one pictured above. Yes, it really is ...

A RED PLAID BIKINI!

Not to sound like a valley girl or anything (although I kind of am), I squealed in delight and said, "Oh my God!" I mean, really ... a red plaid bikini? I know plaid has been around forever, and it seems to go through phases were it's cool or hip, but I was really surprised to see this. Not to mention the fact that it's January and about 15 degrees outside right now. Guess what I'm getting for my birthday next month! :)

Me & Ryan Pelton

Rick and I went to see Ryan Pelton perform this afternoon in our small town Bigfork, Montana. For those who don't know, Ryan is an Elvis impersonator. I think he's probably the best one out there. Rick and I saw him perform here a few years ago on our anniversary on Valentine's Day. Ryan is giving up his gig as Elvis and moving on with his own life, so this was a farewell tour performance. He puts on a great show, so I'm sorry to see him giving it up. I do believe, however, that he will be successful on his own, so I wish him all the best.

There is a little bit of plaid in this picture, as I wore a red plaid tank top under a short black blazer. I probably should have taken off my chunky leather coat for the picture, but the theater was freezing.

Plaid Flat Cap

I saw this little PGA edition Beanie Baby at the Salvation Army today. I noticed he was wearing a cute, little plaid cap. I didn't buy him — my girls collected Beanie Babies for years and we have more than we know what to do with. So instead of buying him, I settled on taking a picture of him. He seemed happy to pose for me.

We traditionally call them golf caps, but I believe the proper name is flat cap. Click here to read more about them. Ironically, there's a red plaid flat cap pictured on that link just like the one this little bear is wearing.

Welcome Plaid-natics!

Some of you might already know, but for around the last two months I've been doing a Plaid of the Day post on Twitter each day. Sometimes I post pictures of things I've bought or spotted in stores. Other times it's cool things I've found online. It's been fun a lot of fun for me. However, I've noticed that photos seem to disappear on Twitter after awhile. Maybe they have a limit how many can be posted at one time. So anyway, I thought it would be fun to switch over to a blog to share my love of all things plaid. Red is my favorite, but I'll try to include other forms of plaid as well.

My love for plaid goes back a long way. My mom loved red plaid, especially Tartan, and often dressed me in it. I had a love/hate relationship with it as a child. I liked it personally, but thought it wasn't cool to be wearing it at school, so I was a little intimidated by it. Fast forward many years later, and now as an adult, I'm loving it all over again. No, I take that back. It's become a full-blown obsession for me. I guess I'm a  bonafide Plaid-O-Holic.

I hope you'll join me with this. If you have something plaid you want to share, you can email me a picture of it at: renamoodyblue@yahoo.com. Feel free to include any other information about the item or why you like it. Thanks for reading and I look forward to seeing some of your plaid-sightings as well.
