Down-on-his-luck ...

Nathan, my thirteen-year-old, came into the classroom this morning and asked if I had done my plaid blog yet. When I told him I hadn't, he ran out of the room and came back with this. He called him "Drunk GI Joe". I couldn't help but laugh. He certainly looks like he has hit hard times — maybe even rock bottom.

The plaid shirt is kind of cool, even though it's ripped and torn in the back. It actually came from one of Rick's GI Joe figures that he played with as a kid. So, that little, plaid shirt has to be nearly 40 years old now, which is pretty impressive.

Red Plaid Carpet

Tonight all the buzz is over the Oscars, but I'm not watching. I was just on Facebook and Twitter, and that's all that is being discussed. I'm really not into current movies, actors, and all that jazz. I'm thinking of calling it an early night, grabbing my kitty and heading off to bed. However, since everyone is talking about the red carpet, I did a quick search for red plaid carpet. This image came up. Looks like a fun place.

Thrifty Plaidness ...

I did my usual "wander aimlessly around the thrift store" thing today. Saw this little bear above for 75 cents. He had a zipper in the back and his belly is empty, so I'm guessing it was some sort of bag. I didn't buy him, but he smiled for a picture.

I also saw these size 10 slipper like shoes. It's a good thing I don't wear a size 10 or I might have been tempted — MIGHT, being a key word. And finally, here's a picture of me that I put up on Instagram today. I was bored in the car waiting for Rick to get out of his doctor's appointment. Today I'm wearing my plaid pants, which I bought at the thrift store a few months back for less than $4 or so.

Two Cute Dresses

I like both of these plaid dresses. Then again, I don't really have anywhere I would wear them, but that's beside the point. Which do you like more?

Idaho Potato Man

This is the Idaho Potato Man. You've probably seen his commercial. If not, click here to watch it. I didn't realize this truck was real, but apparently it is traveling around the country. Click here for more information on it. But anyway ... the Idaho Potato Man has a plaid shirt on and that's pretty much all I noticed.

Plaid Caroler

I saw this little doll at the thrift store today. I didn't buy her, but thought I'd take a picture of her. She sure is cute, especially with her plaid scarf and pants. She was around $6, I think.

I found my blazer!

About two weeks ago I blogged about Plaid Blazers and was talking about how I was looking for one for myself. Well, today I did. I was wandering around the Salvation Army and had found a really cute, short patterned blazer and a charm bracelet. When I went to pay for them, the lines were super long, so I decided to wander around for a little longer. That's when I found this above. It didn't come with the belt, so I added one for the picture when I got home. It's partially wool, but I think only 10% or so. It's fairly short and double breasted. It's by Evan Picone, which apparently began in the late 1940s. In 1962, the owner sold the company to Revlon. To be honest, I don't know if they still make Evan Picone clothing anymore. I can't find this jacket online anywhere. I found a few that are similar. I paid $8 for it, but I have no idea how much it's worth, if it is indeed vintage. I guess I'll keep searching and maybe something will come up sometime.

Plaid Bathroom

I think if I ever moved into another house and had an extra bathroom, I'd decorate it in red plaid. I saw these two pictures online. I really love the accessory set above. The bottom bathroom is neat, but I think it would be better if they stuck with just one plaid. I love those elongated tubs. I had one in my house in California.

Plaid Kitty Cat

My friend, Valentina sent me this picture awhile back. Valentina is from Argentina, and she's a fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers just like me. I thought this cat was so cute with his little, plaid hat and tie. Thanks, Valentina!

Plaid Boots

I would totally wear both of these. But then again — I am pretty weird.

Happy Birthday, Neil!

Today is my son's eleventh birthday. It's hard to believe my baby is that old. We had a quiet party for him at home tonight. He enjoyed his pizza, cake, and all his new presents. I took this picture of him wearing this plaid shirt at the beginning of the school year. He definitely looks like he has some plaid-itude!

Plaid Cake

Isn't this just the coolest thing? Today is my birthday, but I don't think I'm getting a plaid birthday cake. That's okay, but this is still a really cool cake.

Plaid Cutie

I saw this little guy at the thrift store. I didn't buy him, but he did agree to having his picture taken. The people at the Salvation Army must think I'm absolutely crazy with how I wander around and take pictures of anything plaid — hahaha!

Plaid That Made Me Sad

I saw this plaid dress at the Salvation Army thrift store yesterday and nearly squealed in delight because it was cute as hell. Imagine my disappointment when I grabbed the tag and saw it was a 7/8 size. Ugh. I haven't been that since since junior high school. I think I'd have to stop eating for two years to be that size again. Heck, I'm not even sure if my BONES are a 7/8 size. Had it been one size bigger (two would have been better) I might have had a chance of working my way into it. It made me sad, especially because it was only $4.95. It sure is cute, though.

Plaid Blazers

I saw this picture in a local JCP ad that was mailed to me. I don't know about you, but I like the look of it. I've been searching for a plaid blazer lately. Obviously, a woman's one, and not like the one pictured here. I scour the thrift stores for old blazers. I just bought the cutest tweed one with three-quarter sleeves. I see a lot of red plaid ones also, but they're not very trendy looking. Most are long, baggy, and totally out of date. I suppose I could order one online, but that's not as fun. Finding one at a thrift store is what's fun. It's all about the thrill of the hunt for me.

However ... click here to see what type of blazer I'm looking for. I love this particular one, but would love to find it more of a Modern Tartan. The one on the link might be closer to an Ettrick Tartan. One of these days I'll try to go over different types of plaid. In the meantime, I'm seriously thinking of driving up to the Salvation Army today to do some hunting ... errr, I mean, shopping.

ETA ... click here to see another style I'd really love to get.
